Beginners and veterans alike participate for recognition of quality cinema no matter what size of movie budget their film is comprised of. It is a well known place for low film budget cinema to boost its creators reputation amongst the big movie budget films found in the mix.

Some debuting films that have been guided into distribution by Slamdance are as follows:
2007, The King of Kong – Picturehouse and New Line Cinema
2007, Weirdsville– Magnolia Pictures

2005, Mad Hot Ballroom –Paramount Classics
2005, Zombie Honeymoon– Showtime Networks

These films are just a few amongst the 50 plus films to have achieved such heights.

The Slamdance Film Festival is big on having past award winning veterans of the festival whom may have started off with lower film budgets but went on to mainstream success help out those that are up and coming. Piggy-backing off the creative reccomendations, knowledge, and reputation of these previous winners can be valuable for those future participants daring enough to complete their work and seek out such recognition.
The festival this coming new year is already closed for new submissions since October, however, you can participate as a viewer of these new-coming talents in the audience as of January 21st thru the 28th. If you have more questions regarding future participation in the event, call 323-466-1786 and speak to somebody in the office in this regard. Palm Springs International Film Festival | by Film Budgets

Palm Springs International Film Festival

Dates:  January 6-17th, 20111

Palm Springs, CA USA

On January 8, 2011 Natalie Portman and Colin Firth will Receive the Desert Palm Achievement Awards for acting. Carey Mulligan is to be honored with the Breakthrough Performance Award for her work in Never Let Me Go and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

As for every little girls dream of being a profound actress or ballerina, Natalie Portman takes the cake and eats it, too, in her performance as the obsessive, perfectionist of a ballerina for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan. Natalie stars as a broken ballerina, "battling her ghosts" in the midst of her competitive time of rehearsal for a role of a lifetime. This portrayal was something Natalie has been preparing for, in essence, most all her life. She has been dancing since the age of 4, before her acting career, giving her 5 years of saturation in the life of a dancer previous to her career-debuting film, The Professional at the age of 11. With Natalie knowing the love and passion true dancers have, there is something of value to watch on screen besides her beautiful behavior.

"Colin Firth brings a regal versatility to each of his roles, but his portrayal of King George VI in his last film, The Kings Speech, is extraordinary," says the Chairman of the PSIFF, Harlod Matzner. The Kings Speech took a little over a year to get from a script to its first day of shooting. SeeSaw Productions, a UK and Australian Production Company, had The Kings Speech script in hand for one year, later closed the financing for its film budgets in October of  '09, began principle photography the following month, and completed a final cut this last August of 2010. http://www.firth.com/king.html

Carey Mulligan will be back in time for the festival after spending Christmas and the New Year in the UK. Carry has had a full schedule of attending conferences, screenings, and guest appearances, like that of The LA Times: Young Hollywood Round Table this past week at the AFI FEST.

The Palm Springs Int'l Film Festival is scheduled to begin on January 6th and run through the 17th of 2011. Directions and contact information to the Festival and its office are as follows:

1700 East Tahquitz Canyon Way # 3
Palm Springs, CA 92262-7158
(760) 778-8979
http://maps.google.com/
Javier Bardem and Jennifer Lawrence are also going to be making an appearance for their honor.

The Palm Springs International Film Festival has a long tradition of promoting movies with small film budgets as well as studio productions with larger movie budgets.   Filmmaking excellence is supported globally as the festival broadens its reach each year, bringing to its audience films from around the world while supporting local films as well.

Film Budgets | AFI & AFM Join Forces Again

The AFI FEST is going to be held from Nov. 4 -11, 2010. The festival headquarters will be at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The Screenings will take place at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre, the Mann Chinese 6 theatres, and the Egyptian Theatre American Cinematheque, all near the Parking Center at the Hollywood Highland Center.

Twenty five of the AFI FEST Films will be simultaneously represented at the The American Film Market (AFM), of which 8 will be screened.

The AFM is the market partner of the AFI FEST. It is the physical market where Hollywood's decision makers and trend setters come together under one roof, and have been doing so since 1981. Unlike the film festival, the AFM is the marketplace where production and distribution deals are closed. During the 8 day event, over eight-hundred-million dollars in deals will be sealed for films in all various stages of production, including films with low film budgets and high movie budgets.

Film making for movies of any size of film budget is a collaborative process that requires many producers and distributors to come together before final decisions are made. The AFM allows for a place for them to network, hold seminars, screenings, premieres, and make deals amongst the 7,000 industry leaders attending each year at its location in Santa Monica.

This crucial exposure can be the avenue between making it or breaking it within the entertainment community and its development and acquisition, production companies,  executives from over 70 countries, agents, attorneys, directors, financiers, distributors, film commissioners,  festival directors, producers, the world's press, and producers, film financiers and all else who provide services to the motion picture industry and in the Film Capital of the World.

The American Film Market (AFM), will be going on from November 3-10, 2010 in Santa Monica, California, near  and is the Market Partner for the AFI FEST. The AFI FEST is also the qualifying festival for the Short Films category for each year's Academy Awards.

The Independent Film and Television Alliance (IFTA) is responsible for putting on the AFM. IFTA is the trade association that represents Producers and Distributers around the world involved in Independent Motion Picture and Television Programs.  The organization currently represents a hundred and fifty member companies from twenty three countries, consisting of independent production companies, distribution companies, sales agents, financial institutions involved in film financing and film budgeting. Since 1980 IFTA members are responsible for producing and distributing over half of the films to have been honored for Best Picture in the Academy Awards, including Silence of the Lambs, Braveheart, Amadeus, Platoon, Dances with Wolves,  the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, The Departed, Million Dollar Baby, No Country for Old Men, Slumdog Millionaire, Crash, The Hurt Locker, Ghandi, The Last Emperor, Driving Miss Daisy, Shakespeare in Love, the English Patient, and Chicago.

American Film Market | AFM 2010

American Film Market 2010

The American Film Market takes place November 3rd-10th in Santa Monica, CA
at the Loew's Hotel on Ocean Blvd. overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Movies entailing large production spend of film budgets and every conceivable movie budget in between from low to high are represented here.  AFM is the largest gathering of film business professionals on the continent and hosts well over 8,100 industry veterans in production, marketing and distribution.  Executives from film production companies from around the world descend upon the American Film Market to interact and conduct business with other movie production companies, distributors, movie buyers and film financiers.

Film Screenings

Film screenings will entail 409 movie presentations and 287 world premieres viewed by entertainment industry executives from around the globe from all regions, countries and continents.  Stars will be out promoting their films along with directors and producers ready to close deals and distribute their film to welcome buyers of movie productions.

Now more than ever producers are required to take more and more matters into their own hands.  As distributors, buyers, studios and indie film companies provide less services and seek out films at much later stages than before, filmmakers must take control.  This requires more accurate film budgets, film finance plans, marketing plans and some companies go so far as to require P&A funds!  Today's filmmaker must be equipped with a proven film budget for starters and must know the exact cost required to complete the film.  A seasoned line producer can help the filmmaker create a custom and dependable movie budget for their project.

Vist the Film Budget blog for more details on moving your screenplay from script to film budgets to movie theaters and the AFM 2010 film market.

The Sundance Film Festival is the longest running American indie film festival and a highly sought after festival for independent cinema.  Filmmakers accepted into Sundance receive an incredible amount of publicity and acclaim.

Distributors consider Sundance to be a critical market place for up and coming directors and compete with each other to catch the "next big thing" coming out of Park City.  Movies with low film budgets stand neck and neck with those with a bigger production spend available but just as much prestige in most cases.

Founded by Robert Redford, the festival also entails the Sundance Institute which offers year round education, seminars, conferences, etc. including the Writers Lab, Producers Lab and Directors Lab which provides workshop opportunities for aspiring filmmakers with experienced industry professionals.

Set in the majestic Wasatch Mountain range the Hollywood film industry escapes to this small ski town, taking it over, with the oft repeated phrase "black suits with cell phones" to describe the many producers walking the snow covered streets amongst the locals.
Due to its proximity to Los Angeles, Sundance attracts an army of such industry players.
From its start as a humble indie gathering Redford's dream has grown to become a behemoth of marketing, dealmaking, success and failure for many a filmmaker with deals running from $0 for a film to $10 Million in a much sought bidding war for a new film
which shows promise for the box office.
