Who Needs a Movie Budget for Film Financing?

If you are trying to determine what you need to get film financing for your movie, here are a few tips on who actually would benefit from having a movie budget created for their film.

Here is a quick list of the top five people for whom getting a movie budget is a wise choice.

1.   Producers
2.   Directors
3.   Writers
4.   Production company executives
5.   Actors

Obtaining a movie budget is a smart endeavor for a filmmaker as it signals several important factors to investors and financiers.  The first and foremost is that it conveys a certain practicality.  It also demonstrates a sense of responsibility.

1.  Producers - Clearly Producers require a detailed, organized and well planned out film budget and shooting schedule for the production.  Without these basic tools there is not much of a production, not really a sense of planning and certainly no decision to demonstrate a thorough understanding of where to spend the financing of the movie.

2.  Directors - Very often Directors can take the reigns of their career and get the funding ball rolling themselves.  To do so requires an accurate, well planned movie budget and shooting schedule through which an investor may fund their film.  Directors understand that leadership is required and stepping up to the plate and getting a professional film budget custom made for their movie is an important leadership maneuver.

3.  Writers - As with Directors, the Writer is the genesis of the production to begin with.  Their vision has launched the film into a screenplay from the basics of an idea.  With their understanding of the production, the story and the scene by scene breakdown of the plot, locations and dialogue writers have a more thorough understanding than most in the process.  Taking the bull by the horns and getting a line producer to create a movie budget for their project is not only smart, but very often is the critical motivation for investors and other team members to jump into action.

4.   Production Company Executives likewise need to know the cost of producing motion pictures.  With the ever and fast changing technology, process and workflow of film production it is important for film executives to have the ear and knowledge of a line producer to budget their films for production.

5.   Actors - Quite frequently in Hollywood a film takes on a whole new element when an actor is attached to the production.  Having an acting on board brings that character to life for the creatives and also can be the stimulus for finance for the movie.  Actors have great drive in their careers, constantly improving their craft.  Many times they clearly see the path to their on screen performance is to help get the production moving with a movie budget for investors to evaluate and fund the production.

Film Financiers Require a Professional Movie Budget By a Line Producer or UPM

Film financiers require a professional movie budget by a line producer in order to evaluate your production.   When considering financing a movie production, the finance executive must determine the true cost of the film.

Producers seeking funding for their films are likewise judged by the quality of the movie budget that they present.  Financiers are not stupid, not most of them anyway, and they can see a template film budget, sample movie budget or software generated movie budgets.

First and foremost, an investor wishes to see that the filmmaker is willing enough to invest in themselves.   One way to establish this is by hiring a qualified line producer or production manager with extensive experience in the field making movies.

Utilizing the service of a novice template generator reveals an inability to surround oneself with professionals.  Alternatively, bringing onboard a line producer early in the process demonstrates the filmmaker has the ability to delegate and surround themselves with experienced crew.

Filmmakers should contact FilmBudget.com for a professional, custom, detailed and proven film budget and schedule.   FilmBudget.com is the international leader in worldwide movie budgeting.

Summer of the Huge Film Budget Set to Strike!

It is looking like the summer of the huge film budget is getting set to strike.   Studios more and more are leaning to enormous film budget productions for mass consumption.  This summer looks to be a banner year in that regard.

The major Hollywood studios of course have been making this bet for some time, and appear to be doubling down.  The hope is that these major releases likewise generate gargantuan profits, which they quite often do.

Occasionally this is not the case as with 'John Carter', for which Disney had to write down $200 million shortly after its release.  Nonetheless the coming box office season brings more movies with big film budgets and great action, vfx and pure popcorn movie entertainment.

Look for our blog shortly on the specific numbers associated with these films at:

Meryl Streep Likes Low Film Budget Movie Shoots

In a 60 Minutes interview with Morley Safer, Meryl Streep reveals her preference in which movie productions she likes to shoot.  It seems she would rather a low film budget production to perform in.

The reasoning being that she dislikes being asked to undergo take after take of the same scene.  In a low film budget production she states, they can't afford to keep going on and on.   Whereas on the other hand a large film budget movie production does have the resources for multiple takes and continuous reworking of the scene and performance.

Another pet peeve of Ms. Streeps is the penchant for big film budget productions which cater to teenagers. As she explains it "they try to discourage you from coming if you don't buy toys and the merchandising".
