The Tokyo film fest showcases cinema with large film budgets from well known directors from the EU countries and the USA as well as those with a more modest movie budget from all regions of the globe.

With the trend toward reduced overseas pre-sale activity the resulting reduction in the scope and scale of the movie budget is evident in this year's crop of projects coming to the fore.  While it remains to be seen if a resultant drop in quality ensues, it is noted that foreign filmmakers have had to work with much less than their US counterparts for decades.
