The 34th Göteborg International Film Festival is underway in Sweden with over 200,000 festival attendees expected. The festival is one of the biggest film festivals in the world by audience members.
Festival fans come to see art films with a modest movie budget and those with higher amounts to spend on telling their story, all with a Scandinavian sensibility.
Additionally the Nordic Film Market commences this week and coincides with the film festival. The 12th Nordic Film Market is the premiere market for Nordic films with 28 movies and productions to be presented to international distributors and buyers.
The top award for the festival is the Dragon Award Best Nordic Film
Featured films include:
'Happy Happy' directed by Anne Sewitzky from Norway.
This film has just won at Sundance in Park City, Utah teh World Cinema Grand Jury Prize
'She Monkeys' directed by Lisa Aschan from Sweden
'Brim' from Iceland
'King of Devil's Island from Norway - which will open the festival
Eleven films taking part in the festival likewise have been nominated for the Academy Awards Oscars.
Charlie Kaufman will teach a Master Class and there will be a focus on Romania filmmaking as well.
