Every year in August the medieval, Swiss-Italian town of Locarno hosts an eleven day event in tribute to art-in-film for movie enthusiasts and industry professionals. This event is known as the Locarno International Film Festival, or LIFF.
The magnificent setting put forth by the Piazza Grande, the venue for the LIFF, accommodates up to eight thousand filmgoers on a nightly basis. Recipients of last year’s 63rd Annual LIFF Leopard of Honour Award was split two ways by Chinese filmmaker JIA Zhang-ke and Swiss filmmaker Alain Tanner. The Leopard of Honour Award (Pardo d’onore) is the LIFF’s most honorary award.
For submitting your film in the 2011 festival you can go to their website and go over the specifics and download the rules and regulations.
The submission deadline is June 1 There is a 100CHF fee for entry fees on films exceeding 40 minutes in length. There is no charge to enter your short film in the Locarno International Film Festival.
