Earthday is Friday April 22, 2011
Ten tips for improving your green factor:
1. Use a Reusable Bag - take a bag with you to the store. Either a paper bag or a plastic bag in your pocket is easy to do and once you get in the habit it is a no brainer.
2. Install a Filter Tap - Don't use bottled water. A filter tap under your sink will filter out the bad chemicals in city tap water. Aquasana makes a great one. Plastic water bottles should be avoided. Use a glass or metal for a portable source from your filter tap.
3. Take shorter showers. Reducing your shower time can drastically save water and energy. Each minute of shower time is roughly five gallons of water.
4. Don't run the water while you brush your teeth.
5. Use the warm or cold setting on your washing machine.
6. Walk or ride your bike (or skateboard) wherever and whenever you can. Avoid driving trips for one item. Organize your travels to maximize driving errands.
7. Switch to energy saving fluorescent light bulbs. Energy saved if everyone did it would be like taking one million cars off roads.
8. Plant a Tree - either on your property or via an environmental cause. Help increase the plant content of the earth to counter rainforest destruction.
9. Recycle! Use your community recycling services to the fullest extent possible. If they are inadequate, do your part to convince your local officials to increase recycling services.
10. Participate! Join environmental groups such as:
Greenpeace
Global Green
Sierra Club
Filmbudget.com and Greentrees Films support a cleaner, greener environment through activism and community participation. Together we can make a difference.
