Part of the Edinburgh International Festival the film section is the longest continuously running film festival. Set in the beautiful old city centre with its ancient castles and cobble stoned walkways visiting this city truly takes one back in time into a setting of culture and adventure.

In 1947 the EIFF got its start alongside the renowned international arts festival. It was not only one of the first such festivals with a worldwide focus it is likewise the oldest.

Artistic Director:  Hannah McGill - a former critic for The Herald

Edinburgh showcases UK and global films including documentaires, fiction films and short subject features and docs.

Festival Premieres which have proven successful for the filmmakers going forward have included:

My Beautiful Laundrette
The Blair Witch Project
Pulp Fiction
 L.A. Confidential
Amélie
Lars von Trier's
Antichrist
