Palm Springs International Film Festival | by Film Budgets

Palm Springs International Film Festival

Dates:  January 6-17th, 20111

Palm Springs, CA USA

On January 8, 2011 Natalie Portman and Colin Firth will Receive the Desert Palm Achievement Awards for acting. Carey Mulligan is to be honored with the Breakthrough Performance Award for her work in Never Let Me Go and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

As for every little girls dream of being a profound actress or ballerina, Natalie Portman takes the cake and eats it, too, in her performance as the obsessive, perfectionist of a ballerina for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan. Natalie stars as a broken ballerina, "battling her ghosts" in the midst of her competitive time of rehearsal for a role of a lifetime. This portrayal was something Natalie has been preparing for, in essence, most all her life. She has been dancing since the age of 4, before her acting career, giving her 5 years of saturation in the life of a dancer previous to her career-debuting film, The Professional at the age of 11. With Natalie knowing the love and passion true dancers have, there is something of value to watch on screen besides her beautiful behavior.

"Colin Firth brings a regal versatility to each of his roles, but his portrayal of King George VI in his last film, The Kings Speech, is extraordinary," says the Chairman of the PSIFF, Harlod Matzner. The Kings Speech took a little over a year to get from a script to its first day of shooting. SeeSaw Productions, a UK and Australian Production Company, had The Kings Speech script in hand for one year, later closed the financing for its film budgets in October of  '09, began principle photography the following month, and completed a final cut this last August of 2010. http://www.firth.com/king.html

Carey Mulligan will be back in time for the festival after spending Christmas and the New Year in the UK. Carry has had a full schedule of attending conferences, screenings, and guest appearances, like that of The LA Times: Young Hollywood Round Table this past week at the AFI FEST.
