Movie Budget News Update:
UK Film Council Budget Slashed
The UK Film Council has had its movie budget slashed by 25% over the next four years by the Conservative government as part of its austerity plan. Some suggest it has more to do with a broad agenda of reducing government assistance in the arts in the UK. This reduction shall immediately and decidedly impact the British film industry with the British Film Institute having its HQ funding cut amongst the coming reduction in the UKFC's ability to fund movie budgets.
Foreign Box Office
David Kosse, President of Universal Pictures International, stated to an industry crowd at Cine Expo 2010 that he believes foreign theatrical box office could reach 80% and that foreign is poised for growth in the coming years.
We could not agree more as the appetite for quality movie entertainment and higher film budgets lure more overseas audiences to the theaters.
20th Century Fox International has crossed the $2 Billion mark for international theatrical box office. This is the fourth time for film revenue to hit that mark for the studio distribution division. Fox Int'l reaches this mark five months in advance of its competitors.
