The Film Independent Spirit Awards are taking place:


Saturday February 26th, 2011


The Voting Body of Spirit Award nominees is comprised of IFP and Film Independent members.


Film Independent embraces the heart and soul of the indie filmmaker, showcasing movies with lower film budgets and those with a larger movie budget with which to work.   By supporting filmmakers in both the Spirit Awards and throughout the year, this organization is an extremely valuable asset to the movie making community.





The categories that will be awarded on this year are:

Best Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best First Feature, Best First Screenplay, John Cassavetes Award for best feature under a $500,000 film budget, Best Female Lead, Best Male Lead, Best Supporting Femal, Best Supporting Male, Best Cinematography, Best Documentary, Best Foreign Film, Robert Altman Award for the chosen film's director, casting director and ensemble cast.

Best First Feature Nominees Include Directors:

Frazier Bradshaw for 'Everything strange and New,' Aaron Schneider for 'Get Low,' Tanya Hamilton for 'Night Catches Us,' Daniel Stamm for 'Last Exorcism,' and Lena Dunham for 'Tiny Furniture.'
