Karlovey Vary International Film Festival - KVIFF

Karlovey Vary International Film Festival - KVIFF

When:  July 1-9, 2011

Where:  West Bohemia, Czech Republic

Submission Deadline:  April 1st, 2011

Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, KVIFFThe KVIFF was originally founded in 1946.  The Festival shortly thereafter had its direction taken away from the artists and film enthusiasts by government officials and their socialist views in 1948.

The Communist government would control all the content of the Festival, using it as a platform to push their propaganda.  After the Velvet Revolution in 1989, political and social changes left the Festival unmanned by any government control, whereas the artists were ten able to regain control and insight in the early 1990's.

At its infancy all over again, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Anderson, Milos Forman, and Annette Benning were there to let the world know the KVIFF was an important figure in world cinema and was there to stay in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.

The Festival is made up of a series of categories for Films in Competition.  The main part of the competition is the Competition of Feature-Length Films where the films screened have been approved by the FIAPF for being a film that has not previously screened at any other International Festival.  This segment of the competition has the following awards: the Grand Prix Crystal Globe for best feature and $20,000 which can augment their film budget or marketing costs, The special Jury Prize, Best Director Award, Best Actress Award, and the Best Actor Award.
